San Mommè
an odd name for a village in the mountains of Pistoia, its origin has been lost in the mist of the centuries.
"It seems" to have come down from a holy Eastern hermit, who befriended lions and whose name was Mammone or Mamante.
The Longobards venerated him, and when they arrived here they made his veneration obligatory in that first inhabited nucleus called "Savaiana", which then became what today is San Mommè!
